Chester FC brushed off the disappointment of the weekend's defeat at Wrexham with a hard-earned 1-0 win at Torquay United on Tuesday .

George Thomson, handed his first start since his move from Kings Lynn Town, rose to the occasion and netted the game's only goal with 30 minutes on the clock.

Torquay came on strong in the second-half in search of an equaliser but found the Blues in no mood to surrender the lead with Jon Worsnop making some important saves and the back four standing strong.

Steve Burr's team would have had a second had Martin Rice not kept out Oliver McBurnie's header late on but the single goal proved enough to take all three points back to Chester.
