Steve Burr's side head into this game on a high after a fine 3-1 win at Braintree Town, a place not many clubs return from with maximum points.

A tough opening month continues with another game against a side tipped to be in the promotion mix come the end of the season.

Fax boss Neil Aspin has done an excellent job and after a top-five finish last term and three straight wins to start the new campaign, there is plenty of optimism in Calderdale.

Blues reporter Jim Green looks at some of the key contests as the Blues lock horns with the Shaymen.

Chris Iwelumo v Marc Roberts

Fax captain Marc Roberts can be a real handful all over the park and the ex-Buxton defender could be the next Neil Aspin signing to attract Football League attention.

A strong and assured centre back, the 24-year-old possesses a monster throw and will be sent forward as the main target for attacking set pieces.

He has two goals to his name already this season and will have to be marked tight, so Iwelumo could be charged with tracking back when Roberts goes forward.

At the other end, the Blues need the ex-Scotland centre forward to replicate his excellent performance at Braintree.

He had too much size, strength and experience for the Iron defenders, providing a focal point and giving his team-mates something to work off.

His task won't be simple because Roberts and central defensive partner Steve Williams have been rock-solid to date, but Iwelumo will be relishing the challenge.

Craig Mahon v Scott McManus

Irish winger Craig Mahon was one of the few positives to emerge from a forgettable 2013-14 season for the Blues.

His performances demonstrated he can make an impact at this level and convinced manager Steve Burr to offer him a new deal.

Mahon has started all three games so far and after a slowish start there were signs at Braintree that he is hitting his stride.

He will need to be on his game when he comes up against Halifax left back Scott McManus, who is one of the first names on the team-sheet for Neil Aspin.

McManus, signed from FC United of Manchester in 2011, is an attack-minded full back, who looks to get forward as much as possible and delivers some excellent crosses.

Mahon will need to work hard when Fax have possession to stop his fellow 25-year-old bombing on and help his right back, most likely Ben Heneghan, as much as possible.

It should be an intriguing battle between the two, who both have the potential to kick on again this season.

Freddy Hall v Scott Boden

It's early days but Freddy Hall looks to have the makings of a very capable goalkeeper.

Some of his saves at Forest Green and Braintree were straight out of the top drawer, and he has seized his chance to make the number one spot his own.

At the age of 29 he's approaching the age where most keepers peak, but Hall has not played much first team football, particularly over the past few seasons, and a run of games could be the making of him.

He's admitted himself that he still has things to work on but there's a lot to like about his start and plenty to build on.

Hall could be in for a busy afternoon against a direct Halifax side with plenty of firepower.

Star man Lee Gregory has been sold but Neil Aspin has brought in Ross Dyer, Richard Peniket, Jamie Jackson and Scott Boden to replace his 31 goals.

Boden hit 18 goals in a struggling Macclesfield Town last season but has still to score for the Shaymen, although he does have two assists.

He's a clever forward and an excellent finisher so the Blues can't afford him to give him to many opportunities to open his account.
