HALTON FC returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-2 defeat of Pensby.

After starting the brighter, the hosts took a 12th-minute lead in the Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division Two duel at Runcorn's Picow Farm Road.

Steven Horrocks' clever pass sent Thompson through and his cross was converted by Andy Gott.

Halton then failed to build on this and shortly before half-time, Pensby equalised with a long range shot which Corrin failed to keep out.

The second half saw Pensby start to push forward and 'schoolboy' defending saw the visitors awarded a penalty which was converted.

Halton stepped up their game, however. And with ten minutes left, Thompson rounded the keeper to level.

Halton committed more players forward and when Gott's fine effort was saved by the Pensby keeper, man-of-the-match Thompson was on hand to head home his second for the winner.

This Saturday, Halton entertain table-topping Capenhurst at Picow Farm Road, in a match sponsored by Evolution Polymers (ko 3pm).

* Sunday at noon sees the annual Jody Burns Memorial Match between Halton (formerly General Chemicals) and Union Tavern.

All players who have been involved in previous matches are welcome to attend.

Proceeds will go to Cavendish Farm School in memory of murder victim Jody.
