FOUR teams have been expelled from the Mid Cheshire Sunday League Cup over the past two rounds for fielding ineligible play-ers.

And the League has responded with a stiff warning.

Secretary Vic Knop said: 'They are playing a dangerous game - an ineligible player is not covered by insurance. If he breaks a leg or breaks someone else's leg then it could cost a club or individuals a fortune.'

Clubs with slapped wrists include Thatched Tavern, who fielded Steve Capper in their victory over Broadhurst even though he had signed on for Castle Private. Broadhurst have been reinstated and Capper's registration cancelled.

Denbigh, with Lee Duckworth, and Red Lion, with Neil Flynn, suffered the same punishment, as did Middlewich Sutton and two players they sent on against Plough.

Sutton argued the players were watching with a view to signing. As they were winning 4-0, they sent the players on as subs 'to get a game'.

The quarter-finals on January 11 will be: A Rudheath v Oaklands, B Saxons v Cross Keys, C Pockets v Broadhurst, D Rifleman v Hanging Gate. Semis: C v A, D v B.
