LIVERPOOL youngster Andre Wisdom is hoping he won’t need to depart on loan in order to get the game time he craves this season.

The England Under-21s defender admits he has spoken with boss Brendan Rodgers about the prospect of leaving Anfield on a temporary basis.

Owen Coyle is keen to take Wisdom to Championship outfit Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan but no decision will be taken until after the completion of Liverpool’s tour of the Far East and Australia.

The 20-year-old is open to the idea of gaining vital experience elsewhere but is determined to use the upcoming three friendlies to try to force his way into Rodgers’ plans.

“I’ve spoken to the manager and he said the plan was to come away with the first team in pre-season, work hard every day and let’s see where it takes us,” Wisdom said. “Going out on loan is something I’ve looked into but nothing is definite yet.

“Of course it’s every lad’s dream to play for Liverpool so maybe if I do well in pre-season I won’t need to go anywhere else to play games.”

Wisdom is looking to build on a breakthrough campaign when he was one of seven Academy graduates to force their way into the senior set-up.

He enjoyed a dream debut when he scored with a thumping header against Young Boys in the Europa League last September.

Leeds-born Wisdom went on to clock up 19 appearances but spent most of the closing months of the campaign sitting on the bench.

“It was a great season for me – making my debut and playing a lot of matches,” he said.

“I didn’t get as many chances towards the back end of the season with senior players coming back fit but I just tried to take the opportunities I got and I enjoyed it. It’s certainly true that the hard work only really starts when you begin playing for the first team.

“Staying in the team is tough as there is a lot of competition in every department.

“Players have to keep performing in training every day if they want to hold on to a starting place.”

Wisdom returned to pre-season with the Reds after the bitter disappointment of being part of the England Under-21s side who finished bottom of their group in the European Championship.

The Young Lions suffered three straight defeats but stand-in skipper Wisdom was the only player to escape the criticism of outgoing boss Stuart Pearce.

“Although it didn’t go great for us in Israel, I still took away some positives from it,” Wisdom said. “It was a beneficial experience being part of a tournament like that.”

Wisdom was part of the Reds squad who toured China and Malaysia two years ago but he’s still been amazed by the reception the club have received so far in Indonesia.

“It was a really long flight and then the welcome we got at the airport was a real surprise,” he said. “The people were going crazy to show their support for the club.

“As a player, it’s good to see the support we’ve got across the world as it makes you realise what a huge club we’re playing for.”

l YOUNG Liverpool midfielder Conor Coady is set to secure a six-month loan move to Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old was left out of the Reds' squad for the pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.

Liverpool hope regular first team football with the League One outfit will help his development.

Dani Pacheco is also on his way out of Anfield with Celta Vigo looking to wrap up a deal which is likely to be an initial loan.
