TARPORLEY Vics' hopes of a league and cup double are still alive following their League Cup semi-final victory on Saturday.

Three goals in the last eight minutes took them through with a 6-2 win over Hoole Rangers, who had Ian Hastings and Mark Roberts on target. Simon Gresty grabbed a hat-trick for Vics on his birthday with Darren Richards, Henry Buckley and John Haslem also on the mark.

In the final, the Premier Division champions will meet Cestrian Alex who beat Frodsham United (Richie Bennett, Gavin Daly) after extra-time with goals by Adi Gough (2) and Dominic Vessey.

In the Premier Division, Brewery Arms missed the chance to close on leaders Tarporley by losing 6-5 at Newton Athletic Youth, who featured an Ian Riddler hat-trick, strikes by James Andrews and Mark Dutton (pen) and an own goal. Paul Davies, Chris Donnolly (2) and Mike Edwards (2) replied.

Team Highfield stay top of Division One despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Kelsall (John Davenport 2), Carl Hallah and Gary Ellams on target.

Duddon United closed to within three points by thrashing Frodsham United Reserves 6-0 with goals from Andy Rogers (3), Charlie Briscoe, Mike Parker and Stuart Johnson.
