THE city's leading Sunday footballers got their hands on silverware on Monday.

The Chester and District Sunday League's end-of-season presentation evening saw players pick up their prizes at a ceremony staged in the clubhouse at Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club.

Debrella Mail clinched this season's Section A title from runners-up Lache, and the champions collected their medals and shield from league secretary Sue Bennett.

Chronicle sports editor David Triggs and sports reporter Alec Doyle were on hand to give out the winners' and runners-up prizes for Section B, which has been sponsored by this newspaper for more than 30 years. Blacon Orient topped the table from Dee Rangers on goal dif ference.

In the Financial Solutions Section C, Royal Oak clinched the championship after a thrilling battle with Bull's Head, who, along with Lache, were unable to attend Monday's ceremony.

Three player of the season awards were handed out - one for each section - and the winners were Dee Miller's Danny Andrews (Section A), Blacon Orient's Andy Halall (Section B) and Frodsham Red Lion's Will Armstrong (Section C).

The awards were decided by man-of-the-match votes registered by every club secretary after every match during the course of last season.
