A VAUXHALL Motors player is in the running to be named the region’s best non-league footballer.

Skipper Tom Hannigan, 24, has made the three-man shortlist for Blue Square Conference player of the year at the Northwest Football Awards.

Hannigan was unable to stop Carl Macauley’s men from losing a bad-tempered Blue Square Bet North game at Histon 2-0 on Saturday in which three players were sent off.

Motors had Leon Clowes dismissed during normal time and Andy Nicholas after the final whistle following an ugly 20-man brawl.
