Adie joins 300 club

CESTRIAN Alex legend Adie Gough achieved a major milestone in his side’s 6-4 home success over Ashton in Chester & District League Olympic Trophies Division One on Saturday.

The striker’s second goal of the game was his 300th for the club – a remarkable achievement given he started his career as a winger.

Hat-trick hero Richard Deponeo and Jay Sinnott completed the Alex’s scoring with Tom Port (2) and Jonathan Dickinson (2) taking Ashton close.

Duddon United (Kev Rogerson) were held to a 1-1 home draw by Chester Nomads 3rds (Paul Strickland).

Barrow stun Saints

BARROW Athletic caused a major shock in the Chester Senior Cup first round on Saturday as they dumped out the West Cheshire League’s St Werburgh’s.

Goals from Nigel Johnson, Andy Blackwell and Jamie O’Brien earned the Chester & District League outfit a memorable 3-2 win. Carl Reid and Mike Sirett strikes were not enough for the Saints.

There was no such banana skin for Christleton as, inspired by double hat-trick ace Danny Davies, Ben Carrigan (2) and Sean O’Rourke, they cruised to a 9-0 victory at Chester Celtic.

Uberlube, 3-2 at Boughton Athletic (Tom Thorley, Scott Allman), and Saughall Thursday, 4-3 at Tarvin 2000 Athletic (Gary Handley, Adam Crimes, Matt Telfer), sprung minor surprises, while in two more all-Chester & District League ties, Railway Athletic (Paddy Blakely 3, Steve Griffiths, Adam Griffiths, Chris Pattinson) won 6-0 at Vicars Cross Vets and Hoole Rangers 4-0 at Lodge Bar.

LACHE Park BA’s incredible start to Chester & District Sunday League Concorde Trophies Section A goes on.

They moved eight points clear at the top with a 6-0 home romp over Highfield given to them by Nathan Mapletoft (3), Joey Waters and Liam McGovern (2).
