Neil Young hopes to make one more loan signing before Saturday’s crucial match with rock-bottom Hyde (Saturday, November 8 at 3pm).
The Blues currently have six loan players on their books, despite the fact they are only allowed to name five in their matchday squad.
But Young has targeted an attacking left-sided midfielder from the Championship and aims to wrap up the deal before the trip to Ewen Fields.
He admits that would leave him facing a juggling act. However, Young believes he still needs to add extra quality to his squad and feels the impact of Conor Wilkinson, who made a goalscoring debut against Aldershot on Saturday, and Chris Lester showed the loan system is working.
“We are grateful to the clubs loaning us the players because they have done us favours aplenty and helped us bring some quality in. I think people have seen that with Chris and Conor on Saturday,” said the Chester boss.
“Conor has got so much ability and he’s a talent. I watched him in training on the Thursday and some of the things he was doing with the ball were effortless. His movement was good, he’s got quick feet, he’s deceptively quick and he scored a fantastic goal.
“Chris Lester had a decent game and he will get better. He gave us something we haven’t had in terms of pace out there and a threat.”
Young added: “The loan system has served many others well and I'm sure it will serve us well. We are looking and there are a lot of good players out there. The question is, can we get them in at a price we can afford?”
Young said deciding which loan players to name each week was not an easy process.
He said: “It’s not simple and you have got to try and get the team you think can win the game on the pitch.
“We left Alex Titchener out last week and we didn't want to, but you have to look at the options you have.”
One player who won’t be in the squad for the trip to Hyde is new signing Charlie Anderson, who has already left the club due to work commitments.
Young said: “He got a massive job opportunity which came out of the blue and it meant him missing two out of four Saturdays.
“He said it’s an opportunity job-wise that he can't turn down.
“We all know how the economic climate is and he’s got to take the opportunity. If anything changes then we will look at it again.”
Chester go to Hereford United next Tuesday, November12 at 7.45pm.
