BATTLING Division Three minnows Bronze Social were beaten by Vauxhall Motors Reserves as the Motormen of Division One secured their place in the last eight of the Cheshire FA Amateur Cup.

Anthony Carroll (2) and Paul O'Hara gave them a narrow 3-2 victory. Paul Coventry and Jack Thomas replied for the Wallasey outfit.

Ellesmere Port have it all to do again this weekend and are hoping home advantage will turn the tables in their favour in Saturday's replay with sole Mid-Cheshire League survivors Styal.

Saturday's tussle finished 3-3 after extra time with Graham Hughes, Matty Raithe and John Powell on the mark for the Port.

In the previous round, Division Two promotion chasers Capenhurst Villa put out holders Cammell Laird Res and their last eight berth was confirmed after efforts from Stuey Jones, Ian Hartford and Sparky Ryan clinched a 3-1 result against Mellor.

Castrol Social need to beat last season's finalists Christleton in this weekend's third round replay at Whitby Road and they warmed up for the confrontation with four goals from hot-shot Tony Ashton in Saturday's 6-0 demolition of Division One title contenders Aintree Villa.

Further efforts from Jason Renshaw and Stuey Carroll completed the scoring and that result must have given the Oilmen plenty of encouragement in their fight against relegation.

In West Cheshire League Division Two, Didier Cooper was on the mark for Willaston, but his effort was in vain after Maghull Reserves upped the tempo and ran out 6-1 victors.

Lee Rafferty and Danny Parvis each struck twice for the hosts, while Dave Lynch and Cyril Stone also made the score sheet.

Willaston's reserve side saved the day in Division Three, after Mark Fitzpatrick (2) and Mark Price obliged in the 3-1 eclipse of form side Shaftesbury. Scott Houghton netted for the visitors.

A goal from Lee Watts turned out to be just a consolation after promotion chasing Ellesmere Port Reserves went down 4-1 at Merseyside Police Reserves.

The Bobbies sealed the win with goals from John Thompson (2), Lee Hanson and James Sweatenham.

Capenhurst Villa Reserves were second best on the day at Mersey Royal, where efforts from Mike Skillen (2) and Lee Smith steered the hosts to a 3-0 triumph. Elsewhere, Grange Athletic continued their charge up the table and moved into eighth place after Paul Cochrane, Ian Forster, Mark Ringstead and Ian Selby plundered the goals in their 4-2 defeat of Bronze Social.
