A LATE goal by Mike O'Donnell earned Prescot a point against their Cheshire rivals in this UniBond Premier division match.

In a disappointing first half, neither side showed any fluency and the only highlight was a sweeping move by Witton which ended with Ryan McMahon making a great save to keep out a header from Adam Foy midway through the half.

A Carl Connolly volley from 25 yards early in the second half provided Prescot's first real goal threat but Paul Gibson turned his effort over the bar.

The visitors took the lead in the 55th minute when Lee Spike rounded McMahan and outmuscled Brian Holmes before slotting the ball home. Prescot had their best spell of the game after that but found the Witton defence, superbly marshalled by Brian Pritchard, difficult to breakdown.

O'Donnell came to Prescot's rescue when he found space in the box and fired in the equaliser in the 89th minute.

Prescot Cables: McMahon, Holmes (Coulson 65), Dixon (Krupa 60), Kearney, Flynn, O'Donnell, Garforth, Taylor, Connelly, Massey, McNutt (Torpey 78).
