CHESTER City defender Lee Woodyatt is attracting the attention of a clutch of club managers, including former City boss Ian Atkins, who is now in charge of Oxford United.
And with City manager Mark Wright keen to sign central-defender Phil Bolland, currently on loan at the Deva stadium, from the Manor Ground club on a permanent basis, Woodyatt could well become part of the transfer negotiations, which are expected to take place in the next week or so.
Atkins has long been an admirer of Welsh youth international Woodyatt's ability. "Lee was at the club when I was in charge two years ago," Atkins said.
"He has great potential and I know Neville Southall, who is the Welsh youth team manager, also holds him in high regard.
"We are monitoring the situation closely." Woodyatt, who was a regular member of the City squad last season, when Graham Barrow was in charge, was overlooked by subsequent managers Gordon Hill and Steve Mungall.
However, the youngster's talents were quickly identified by Mark Wright, when he took over the Deva Stadium hot-seat, and the 19-year-old has repaid Wright's faith with some outstanding performances in the last month or so.
Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan would be reluctant to lose a player of Woodyatt's ability, but is aware of the interest being shown in the player.
"Lee is an exceptional talent, and will obviously progress in the game. Whilst we wouldn't like to lose him, I wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to better himself and play at a higher level."
Among the other clubs showing interest in the North Wales-born player are Stoke City, Kidderminster Harriers and Stockport County.
Chester are in action tonight in an FA Umbro Trophy fourth round replay at Solihull Borough.
The sides drew 0-0 at the Deva Stadium on Saturday, and the prize for the victors is a home tie in the fifth round, against the winners of the Hereford United and Hampton and Richmond tie on Saturday, February 23.
Midfielder Chris Blackburn could return to the City starting line-up tonight, at the expense of Andy Porter.
