CASTROL Social are off the bottom of Division One after a 2-1 triumph at home to Mond Rangers on Saturday.

Goals from Steve Carroll and Mark McCaffrey secured victory for the Oilmen after the midweek disappointment of losing 4-0 at home to Mallaby.

At the other end of the table, local rivals Vauxhall Motors Reserves savoured back-to-back wins over Maghull and Mallaby to move into second place, just two points adrift of unbeaten leaders Poulton Victoria.

On Wednesday, the Motormen took Maghull apart in a 4-0 romp but the weekend fixture against bogey side Mallaby proved more difficult.

A 14th-minute solo effort from James Thomas was all that separated the sides as Vauxhall finally beat a team who had won on their previous five visits to Rivacre Road.

Ellesmere Port suffered a week of two consecutive defeats despite a spirited performance in the 2-1 defeat against New Brighton in midweek. However, Port were no match for table-toppers Poulton Vics as they were beaten 6-0.

In Division Two, Capenhurst Villa hold a three-point advantage over Maghull Reserves at the top of the table after efforts from Paul Cock-ram and James Fletcher secured Tuesday's 2-0 triumph over promotion rivals Upton AA.

And Villa continued their dominant form at Halton on Saturday with goals from Mark Ryan (2), Fletcher and Lee Roberts securing a 4-0 win.

Neighbours Willaston were disengaged on Saturday but forfeited ground in the title race in midweek after losing 2-0 at Poulton Vics Reserves.

Action in Division Three saw Stewart Booth and Mike Hayes on the mark for Ellesmere Port Reserves in Tuesday's 2-2 stalemate at New Brighton Reserves.

And a Steve Hickson strike proved to be a mere consolation in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at newcomers AFC Bebington Athletic.

Grange Athletic lost 2-1 at home to second-placed Focus, despite a goal from Phil Selby, while Capenhurst Villa's second string had reason to cheer after Duncan Tolan and Phil Sales found the net in a 2-0 win over Mersey Royal.

Capenhurst Villa should consolidate their position at the top of Division Two this Saturday at the expense of bottom club Christleton Reserves, with Willaston set to lock horns with Heswall Reserves, while Castrol will be up against it when they take on Division One leaders Poulton Vics at home.

The first round of the West Cheshire Shield will also kickoff with Grange Athletic facing Capenhurst Villa Reserves and Ellesmere Port Reserves taking on MBNA.
