FOOTBALL leagues across the region were blighted by the weather at the weekend as frozen pitches ravaged the fixture lists.

On Saturday the West Cheshire League suffered hugely with not a single league game played.

Two West Cheshire sides did meet, however, as Division Three outfit St Werburgh’s were bounced out of the Chester FA Cup in their second round tie at home to Chester Nomads

Saints could not overcome their Division Two rivals as Lee Owen (2) and Mike Jeffs booked Nomads’ place in round three with a 3-0 scoreline.

In the Chester and District League, all games were postponed due to the frost.

Two games survived in the Chester Sunday League as Tarvin Rex lost 6-1 at home to Dee Rangers in Concorde Trophies Section A. Gaz Edwards struck three times followed by team-mates Frazer McGuire and Mike Jeffs.

Aged just 16, Ross McNamara gave the scoreline a bit of sparkle with his late goal.

Highfield dominated proceedings in their Chester Chronicle Section B clash with basement club Boughton Hall. It finished 10-0 to Highfield with six goals from Adam Langton and contributions from Neil Fields, John Dean, Danny Owens and Matt Cross.
