Fleetwood Town winger Matty Hughes has joined the Blues on an initial one-month loan.

Steve Burr agreed terms with opposite number Graham Alexander on Monday evening and the move will be completed this morning.

Assuming there are no last-minute hitches, the 22-year-old will be involved in tonight's home game with Aldershot Town (7.45pm).

Hughes, who was with Everton and Wigan Athletic as a youngster, moved from Cheshire Football League side Golborne Sports to Skelmersdale United in November 2012.

He scored 24 times in 58 games for Skem even though he was used primarily on the wing and his exploits drew interest from ex-Chester boss Neil Young and Football League clubs.

Fleetwood Town paid an undisclosed fee to take the Wigan-born forward to Highbury Stadium in January.

Hughes made his debut in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Chesterfield in the following month and featured a further five times in the league.

Fleetwood were promoted to League One at the end of last season and Hughes has made two appearances off the bench this term.

He can operate in a central role or off the front as well as out wide and Burr believes that flexibility will be helpful over the next few weeks.

Hughes could come straight into the starting side tonight with top scorer Craig Hobson still nursing a hamstring strain.
