CHESTER Nomads Seconds kept up their bid for the Premier League title with a 4-2 victory at Waggon and Horses OB on Saturday.

They lead by a point, after goals by Ken Doherty, Paul Herbert, Andy Smith and Steve Goodyear wiped out a Graham Bennion double by the hosts.

Second-placed Hoole Rangers had Paul Roberts and Dave Tinsley on target in a 2-1 win at Tarporley Vics, who had Simon Gresty on the mark.

Cestrian Alex stay third following a 5-3 win at Brewery Arms, thanks to Richard Deponeo, Aidy Gough (2), Craig Downes, with his first for the club, and an own goal.

A first-half strike by Nick Pantazides earned Frodsham United a slender home win over Barrow Athletic, and Newton Athletic Youth had Kevin McFarlane, Martin Rain, Jimmy McElwaine and Matty Jones on the mark in their 4-3 home win against Blacon YC Reserves (Andy Bale, Martin Graces, Dave Riley).

Division One leaders Bank of Scotland had a shock 2-0 defeat at Kelsall, whose goals came from Sean Page, while Duddon United took advantage to close the gap to one point with a 4-3 win at pointless Barrow Athletic (Peter Snelson 2, John Taylor). Match winners were Dave Dudley, Jamie Goulburne, Dave Nelson, Craig Phelan.

A John Maddock brace and an Andy Robinson strike gave Kydds Athletic a 3-0 home win over MBNA Reserves and Steve Nixon and Barry Everson netted to earn Frodsham United Reserves a 2-2 draw at Chester Nomads Thirds (Anthony Dean, John Campbell).

Neil Hughes and Gareth Jones were on the mark for Christleton A in a 2-2 home draw with Crossway, who featured with a Danny Brown double.

Team Highfield thrashed Wigan Rovers in the first round of the Northern Cup, with Lee Coote leading the rout with five goals, supported by Gary Ellams with a hat-trick and Simon Davies with a double. In our report a fortnight ago we stated that the referee abandoned the Upton Borough v Kydds Athletic match after two Upton players had been sent off.

The Cheshire FA have since confirmed the referee's report revealed the game was abandoned later - in the 64th-minute - following an undisclosed incident. The Cheshire FA are still investigating the matter.
