SUSO believes he can take the positives from his U20 World Cup heartbreak with Spain.

The Liverpool youngster suffered disappointment as his side, the obvious favourites for the competition, were dumped out at the quarter-final stage by a spirited Uruguay team.

The 19-year-old featured in all five of his country’s matches at the tournament, but will now return to Merseyside where, after an extended break, he will join up with his Liverpool teammates on their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia.

Suso made 20 first-team appearances for the Reds last season, and says he will draw on his experience at international level in the coming campaign.

He said: “I think we have to learn from every moment, from every point of the tournament.

“I think this will obviously be the biggest one, and it will be a learning experience for all of us.

“We got nine points in the groups, but in the knockout stages we came up against the toughest teams we could have, I think, in Mexico and Uruguay.

“This is football, and if you want to win a World Cup you have to beat the best teams. We tried to do that, but luck just wasn’t on our side.

“I think we played some good football, but in the first half both teams were playing really well. However, Uruguay were waiting for us to come at them and defended, which made it difficult for us to work through them in the first half.”
