THE FA’s decision to hit Liverpool with two charges is ludicrous and will fuel fears that there’s a witch-hunt being conducted against the club.

Have the game’s rulers really not got enough to sort out without concerning themselves with a photo allegedly showing Luis Suarez flashing his middle finger in the direction of Fulham fans?

Those same supporters who had spent the previous 90 minutes throwing abuse in the Uruguayan’s direction.

The inconsistency shown by the FA is galling. Back in May, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney was pictured making a V-sign to Chelsea fans at Old Trafford but no action was taken.

The year before Rooney’s team-mate Gary Neville got away with clearly extending his middle finger towards Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez. Neville was subsequently warned about his future conduct.

Yet for the same offence Suarez now finds himself charged with improper conduct and facing a possible ban.

The charge relating to the behaviour of Liverpool players following the red card shown to Jay Spearing on Monday is baffling.

It wasn’t even a talking point in the aftermath of the match because the manner in which the Reds raced to argue their case with referee Kevin Friend was no different from the way controversial decisions are contested every week of the season.

Considering the injustice of a wretched decision, Liverpool’s protests were reasonably restrained.

Liverpool don’t expect special treatment from the authorities. They just want to be treated fairly but so far this season that hasn’t been the case.
