Liverpool Under-21s recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Chester FC's Lookers Vauxhall Stadium on Monday night.

The Reds named a strong side with Adam Bogdan, Steven Caulker and Jose Enrique all starting while Spurs fielded England international Andros Townsend, who has been linked with a £10 million move to Newcastle United.

Ryan Kent opened the scoring for the Reds with a free-kick early in the first-half and was unlucky not to find himself on the scoresheet more than once.

Sheyi Ojo, who scored his first senior goal against Exeter City in the FA Cup third round replay, provided the assist for the Reds' second goal and he was involved in everything the Reds did well.

The opening minutes of the game were cagey with a lot of the football being played in the middle third of the pitch but the Reds took the lead after Kent found the net just before the quarter of an hour mark as his curling free-kick went through the hands of Tom Glover.

Bogdan was called into action for the first time just after the half-hour mark when a free-kick was dangerously whipped in by Towsend, but the Hungarian held onto the ball well.

The Reds doubled their lead 11 minutes into the second half, after Ojo, who was sharp in the first half, teed up Jerome Sinclair after some brilliant play with Matthew Virtue-Thick and was able to tap the ball home from less than a yard out.

Liverpool continued to create chances following the second goal. First Kent forced the Spurs keeper into a save with a fierce effort after an excellent run, and then Cameron Brannagan tried his luck with a brilliant solo effort, but it went just wide.

The Reds were reduced to 10 men when Kevin Stewart picked up two yellow cards in three minutes and was sent off against his former side but his team-mates were able to see out the win with something in hand.
