LIVERPOOL are sweating on the fitness of striker Daniel Sturridge ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Wigan Athletic.
The £12million frontman has aggravated the thigh problem which he picked up against Manchester City last month.
“Daniel has had a little knock, but we’ll assess it in the next day or so and see how he is for the weekend,” said boss Brendan Rodgers.
Martin Skrtel is back in training after recovering from the knee injury which forced him to sit out last week’s second leg of the Europa League tie with his former club Zenit St Petersburg.
The defender gave an interview in Slovakia earlier this week when he questioned why Rodgers had dropped him in recent weeks.
“He gave me some explanation, but it’s hard to tell if it was the true reason he gave me,” said Skrtel. “I don’t think it was and think there is something else behind it.”
However, the manager is relaxed about the centre-back’s comments.
“I think if you ask any players that I have worked with at any of the clubs I’ve been at, one of the things they will say about me is my honesty,” Rodgers said.
“I won’t wait six months to tell them something that I know now.
“In terms of Martin, him and I have a good relationship even when he is not in the team. We had a couple of conversations and I gave my feeling as to why and we move on.”
