Andros Townsend has been named in the Tottenham Hotspur squad to face Liverpool in tonight's Under-21 Premier League game at Chester FC (7.30pm).

The England winger, who has been linked with a £10 million move to Newcastle United, has been included in a 15-man squad for Ugo Ehiogu's Spurs.

Liverpool head into the match in decent form following back-to-back victories over Southampton and Leeds United.

Michael Beale's team recorded a 1-0 win over Leeds to reach the last eight of the U21 Premier League Cup last time out.

Daniel Trickett-Smith netted the winner at Prenton Park and Beale was delighted with his side's solid defensive showing.

Beale said: "I was really pleased. You think earlier in the season when we were letting in sloppy goals and conceding two or three a game and now we seem to have gone past that.

"It was a different type of performance from us. I think earlier in the season, we wouldn't have been able to hold a team like that.

"Sometimes it's ugly but if it's ugly then I'd much rather be winning and in the next round of the cup."

Tottenham will be looking to build on last week’s 2-2 home draw with Manchester City.

Former England defender Ehiogu has hinted he will be making a couple of changes to face a Liverpool team that could include some of those youngsters who feature for Jurgen Klopp's side against Exeter City in the FA Cup.

Ehiogu said: "It will be difficult – you always know Liverpool are going to try to dominate. Recently a lot of their boys who have been out on loan have come back so we expect them to be quite strong and quite experienced in that regard, but it’s up to our boys – including those who have not had as many minutes lately – to compete and enjoy the challenge.

Tonight's game kicks-off at 7.30pm and admission costs £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £2 for under-16s.
