BRENDAN RODGERS is ready to pit Liverpool’s young guns against the Young Boys of Bern tomorrow night.

The Anfield boss will take a youthful squad with him to Switzerland for the Reds’ opening Europa League group game with a number of teenagers in contention to make their debuts.

Suso, Andre Wisdom and Conor Coady have all been promoted from reserves duty and could make their competitive bows for the first team, along with summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen Samed Yesil.

There will be another opportunity for striker Adam Morgan to shine after the Halewood youngster featured in both legs of the play-off round tie against Hearts.

Fellow youngsters Jon Flanagan, Jack Robinson and Dani Pacheco are also on board for the trip which will give those currently on the fringes the chance to force their way into Rodgers’ plans.

After a transfer window which saw the first team squad cut back, the manager is looking to the Academy to help plug the gaps as senior stars are rested ahead of Sunday’s league clash with Manchester United at Anfield.

His faith in winger Raheem Sterling, who will travel to Bern, has been richly rewarded in recent weeks and the hope is that others will prove they are capable of making the step up.

Fans will be excited about the prospect of finally seeing Suso in first team action two years after he arrived from Cadiz.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who was signed by Rafa Benitez, has impressed at youth and reserve team level with his flair and invention.

The Spanish youth international was involved with the senior squad in this summer’s tour of North America. He also travelled with the first team to Sunderland last Saturday and now his time has come.

Academy graduate Wisdom was another youngster who impressed Rodgers during the pre-season trip of the States and Canada.

The Leeds-born 19-year-old defender has worked his way up the ranks at Liverpool and captained England at under-19 level before making his under-21s debut a year ago. Wisdom has performed consistently well for the reserves and has caught the eye during his time working with the first team at Melwood.

He operates mainly at centre-back but can also play right-back, where he’s more likely to feature against Young Boys.

The third likely debutant from the Academy tomorrow is Coady. It would be the realisation of a dream for the 19-year-old midfielder who has come close in the past.

In February 2011 Kenny Dalglish included him in the matchday 18 for the Europa League tie away to Sparta Prague. However, he didn’t get off the bench and he was also an unused sub against Birmingham City two months later.

Coady, who captained England to Under-17 European Championship glory in 2010, skippered the Reds’ under-19s to third place in the inaugural NextGen Series last season.

Rodgers has already confirmed that German youth international Yesil will feature – three weeks after his £1million move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Assistant boss Colin Pascoe believes the youngsters are capable of getting Liverpool off to a positive start in Group A which also includes Italian side Udinese and Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.

“There are a lot of young lads pushing for places in Europe and it’s a good opportunity to give them a chance,” he said.

“Yesil has been very impressive. He’s got good movement, a great touch and he’s got an eye for goal. He wants to score and he wants to get into the box. He’s got pace and he’s a good finisher.

“The Europa League is a big competition and we’re all looking forward to the game. We will be well prepared for it.”

Tomorrow will be the Reds’ first competitive game in Switzerland since they fought back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Basel in the Champions League in November 2002, although it wasn’t enough to get them out of the group.

Young Boys are currently fifth in the Swiss League with 12 points from eight games – six points adrift of leaders St Gallen.

They have only met English opposition once before and that was Tottenham in the Champions League qualifiers two years ago. At one stage they led Spurs 3-0 in the home leg before losing 6-3 on aggregate.
