KENNY DALGLISH believes Liverpool will be up against one of the Premier League’s best sides when Tottenham visit Anfield on Monday night.

Harry Redknapp’s side have enjoyed a stunning campaign so far, and sit third in the Premier League table, just five points behind Manchester City and Manchester United.

And having already been on the end of a 4-0 hammering at White Hart Lane earlier in the season, Dalglish knows his Reds side will need to be at their best to deal with the threat of the Londoners.

“Spurs were a wee bit unfortunate at the beginning of the season,” said Dalglish. “They had a couple of difficult fixtures - they got beat by Manchester United and lost 5-1 at home to Man City, but since then they’ve kicked on and have been as good as anyone in the league.

“If you’re only five points off the top and there are 15 or 16 games left, I think the law of maths would tell you they are (title) contenders.

“It’s a really difficult game for us, but it’ll be a fantastic evening and a great occasion for everybody.”

Dalglish’s side have enjoyed a resurgence in form of late, culminating in an eye-catching 3-0 win at Wolves on Tuesday night.

The Scot, however, insists there is no danger of his side getting overly-confident ahead of a critical game in their quest for a top-four finish.

“We’re not getting carried away,” he insisted. “We were good enough, strong enough and realistic enough after the Bolton game to pick ourselves up, regroup and get the last three results.

“Because of the positive results, it doesn’t mean to say they (the players) are going to get carried away - and that’s good for us.

“We said last week we had 16 league games left, we’ve got a Carling Cup final and a fifth round FA Cup tie to play, and we’ll do as best we can to get as much as we can from those games.

“We knocked one of them off with the victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and as well as a victory it was a really good performance.”

Dalglish admitted there was an element of frustration about the amount of points dropped by his side, particularly at Anfield, but says they will continue to keep working hard in a bid to secure a crucial Champions League berth.

He said: “We could have – and I think we deserve – a lot more points than what we have got.

“I think the performances have deserved it, but we haven’t got them.

“We’ll just keep plugging away. We believe in what we’re doing and the way we’re going about our work has, in the main, been in the right way, so we’ll just continue to do that.

“Whether you’re at home or whether you’re away, when you’re playing for Liverpool Football Club you’re expected to do the best you can and you’re expected to get as much as you can from every game.

“There are a lot of games we’ve drawn at Anfield that maybe we could have won, and even if we’d taken four more wins from the seven draws we’d have eight more points.

“We’re not too far away. We’ll keep going and see what happens at the end of the season.”
