CONSIDERING third kits are usually derided as mere marketing tools, Liverpool’s new strip has caused plenty of debate across Merseyside.

The white, black and... wait for it... blue outfit is, say makers adidas, a nod to the club’s heritage, and based on the first ever kit worn by Liverpool, back in 1892.

For supporters, however, the issue is a thorny one. Rarely, if ever since, has a Liverpool strip featured blue. Certainly Everton would be unlikely to release a red-based strip.

Many of you have taken to the ECHO message boards to voice opinions on the kit which has the whole city talking.

Is this some kind of sick joke? Anyone with half a brain cell would realise LFC in blue is a no-no.

LFC_Heaven

It’s the players wearing the strip which makes the difference and we all know who are the top dogs in the neighbourhood.....and it isn’t Everton! It’s only a third kit, most will be beaten by the red. Just another ruse for us to part with more cash... not for me, I am part of the Red Army!

RedMachine1970

50quid to look like an evertonian? Not for me, thanks.

Never mind the blue – what a boring strip! I don’t think I’d buy this shirt even if it had a different colour. With no European football and a new sponsor next year, why do we need a third strip?

a2heb

Nah - looks like a souvenir t-shirt from Sea World!!!

clarkey

Whoever designed that should be sacked, it’s almost as bad as the green strip I had to wear in the 90s ;-)

Alun Toner

The kit looks pretty cool. People should stop comparing the shirt with other teams. The future looks bright indeed.

kantonauri

All you so called Liverpool fans should know that it is a tribute to Liverpool’s very first strip from 1892

William Tj Murphy

No way will I buy that!!! Good design but should never put blue on a Liverpool kit even if we wore it 100+ years ago. The past is the past!!!

Kev Kelly

Might pre-order mine and get it on the first day it’s out... beat the queues.

Liverpool_8

We can hardly go on about our history and sing about it but then complain when it’s given a bit of a nod from a kit.

2centsworth

I thought we had seen it all this last few years – now this.

billbobjoeraff

It’s a clever marketing ploy – the club are saying that this season is a fresh start for LFC by using the original colours. A new era. To me, it’s clever and interesting. I like it.

HotAir

Would never buy this for my son! Would an Evertonian buy a red kit?? Had it had a red trim it would have been a nice kit but sorry I don’t see any LFC fan buying this.
