DARYL Clare made the most of his red card reprieve by spearheading Chester's Conference victory at Hilton Park.

The striker (right)  should have been starting his three-match ban on Saturday following his dismissal at Southport after an initial appeal had failed, but the referee agreed to look at video evidence at the 11th hour and decided to downgrade the red card to yellow.

But it was defender Scott Guyett who gave City a flying start with a sixth minute header following a Kevin McIntyre corner before Clare punished a bad back pass by Andy Heald in the 27th minute.

Ryan Sugden, who is banned for three games from this weekend, finished great work by Clare in 41 minutes to give City a 3-0 interval lead.

Even though Leigh had more of the game in the second half they couldn't beat goalkeeper Wayne Brown who made his best save from the former Chester player Stuart Whittaker.

The final goal came five miniutes from time when Clare headed home following a great run and cross by substitute Michael Twiss, who was playing against his old club.
