Round-up: HEAVY rain left most pitches waterlogged last weekend with the Chester and District League and Chester Sunday League able to stage only three matches each.

Chester Nomads had no trouble getting past Kelsall in the third round of the C and C Catering Chester Senior Cup, winning 4-1 with goals by Mark Kerr (2), Mark Powell and Dan Riley, with Sean Page grabbing a late consolation.

Kydds Athletic moved into second place in Division One with a 3-2 home win over Duddon (Jamie Golbourne, Sam Keefe), with goals from John Maddock, Andy Robinson and Ian Savage, while Team Highfield earned a point at Chester Nomads Thirds (Steve Ogilby) with a second-half equaliser by Danny Rose.

There was almost a major upset in the Chester Sunday League Cup with Section A leaders Saltney Ferry coming from behind to beat Section C strugglers Black Dog 5-2.

Andy Austin and John Buchan had the hosts ahead in the first half, but a John Dowridge hat-trick and a Dave Knottidge double spared Ferry's blushes.

Piper moved up to third place in Section B following their 3-2 win over Dee Rangers (Angelo Deponeo, Dan Riley), thanks to Richie Murphy (2) and an own goal.

Vicars Cross Dynamos are top of Section C, Mark Thomson hitting five goals in a 7-2 defeat of Egerton Arms and Wayne Pollard adding a brace. Egerton had a player sent off.

Malpas manager Tommy Lloyd took his share of the blame for his side's 3-0 defeat by rivals Whitchurch Alport in the second division of the Mid-Cheshire League on Saturday.

He said: 'I changed things around so I must take responsibility, but having said that, the number of chances we missed was inexcusable. We missed a penalty and had three shots cleared off the line.

'We are learning all the time and one result doesn't make us a bad team.'

Malpas's scheduled match at Winsford Reserves tomorrow has been postponed because of Winsford's cup commitments. Their next game is in the League Cup at home to Club AZ on Saturday, December 27.
