THE weather took its toll on the Chester and District and Chester Sunday Leagues last weekend with only eight matches played.

On Saturday, Premier Division leaders Tarporley Vics were held to a 3-3 draw at Kydds Athletic who featured two penalties by Ian Savage and a Dave Hulme strike, while Vics replied through Damian Woods, John-Paul Podvoiskuis and Darren Richards.

Third-placed Brewery Arms slipped up at Cestrian Alex, going down by the odd goal in five. Paul Finch scored all the Alex goals.

There was a nine-goal thriller at Waggon & Horses where the hosts were pipped by goals from Frod-sham United's Kevin Rankin (4) and Mark Southall.

Team Highfield strengthened their Division One title hopes with an 8-0 win at Barrow Athletic Seconds with goals by Adam Lang-ton (3), Graham Tomlinson (2), Simon Davies, Jason Perry and Gary Ellams.

An Ed Briscoe double and a Mike Parker strike gave Duddon United a 3-1 home win over Tarvin Athletic.

Gamekeeper's Chester Sunday League title hopes were dented in a shock 7-2 defeat at Wheelwright Arms, whose scorers included Lee Fletcher, Alistair Mayers, Jason Edwards, Mark Antrobus, Paul Tydd and Shaun Donnolly.

Improving Mail Social were 6-4 winners at Stanley Arms who had Chris McKellar (2), Ian Smith and Gareth Carss on target.

Bull's Head kept in touch with the Section B title race with a 2-0 win at Ship Victory on a waterlogged pitch, Adam Newbolt and Gavin Smith the scorers, while the Section C match between St Werburgh's and Tarvin Rex was abandoned after an hour because of the weather with Tarvin 4-0 ahead.
