LIVERPOOL Under-18s will go into tomorrow’s clash with Everton at the Kirkby Academy (11am) on a high following their 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers.

Highly-rated winger Jordon Ibe secured maximum points with his first goal for the club.

The 16-year-old joined the Reds for an undisclosed fee from Wycombe Wanderers back in December.

Coach Mike Marsh said: “It was a great result and an important three points. It was a tough game and we rode our luck at times.

“It was a lovely finish from Jordon and it was a good move – the kind of thing we work on in training. It was nice to see it come off in a game.

“Jordon is still at school in Year 11 so we only see him towards the end of the week. But he’s done very well since he’s been here.

“We’ve got a fully fit squad and everyone is looking forward to facing Everton. Derbies are always great games to play in and I’m sure it will be keenly contested.”

Keeper Tyrell Belford made some important saves early on against Blackburn and then Ibe struck the winner on the half-hour mark, coolly converting Adam Morgan’s pass.

Blackburn went close to equalising in the second half but Lewis Hatch produced a goalline clearance.

“They put a lot of set-pieces into our box but we defended well,” Marsh added.

“Tyrell made a couple of good saves but that’s what he expect from him because he’s a good keeper.”
