LIVERPOOL under-18s coach Mike Marsh was left frustrated by his side’s 1-1 draw at Crewe in the Premier Academy League Group C.

The young Reds created a host of opportunities against the bottom club but couldn’t take advantage and had to settle for a point.

“I was pleased with how we played but not with the overall result,” Marsh said.

“We had plenty of chances to win the game but didn’t take them.

“It was a shame because our general play was excellent. The only thing missing was a finishing touch.

“It’s happened a few times this season and we really should have more points on the board.

“We’ve started the season well but we’ve drawn one or two games too many.

“If we had turned a couple of those draws into wins we would be in a healthier position.”

Liverpool fell behind against the run of play but Nathan Quirk fired them level.

Midway through the second half the Reds were awarded a penalty but Jordan Lussey’s effort was saved by the keeper.

“We can’t blame not winning the game on that penalty,” Marsh added.

“It was a great save and we still had plenty of time to find a winner. We actually missed some much better chances.”

The under-18s find themselves in fourth place with five wins and four draws from their 11 league games.

They are four points adrift of leaders Blackburn Rovers going into Saturday’s home clash with Bolton at the Academy in Kirkby (11am).
