LIVERPOOL Under-18s have enjoyed a successful start to the prestigious Al Kass International Cup in Qatar.

The tournament involves the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan and Steve Cooper's youngsters have safely negotiated the group stage.

Goals from Jerome Sinclair and Daniel Trickett-Smith helped the Reds secure a 2-0 victory over hosts Aspire Qatar 2-0 in their opening game in Group B.

They followed that up with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Esperance Sportive of Tunisia.

It means Liverpool have progressed into tomorrow's quarter-finals and Cooper has been pleased with the efforts of his squad so far.

“The first half against Qatar was very even but we told the boys to pass the ball better in the second half and we managed to do that,” Cooper said.

“It was physically demanding playing two games in two days and Esperance were fresher than us, but we were really pleased with the boys.

“They played with good style and created some really good chances. We looked really solid at the back. The competition is only going to get tougher.”

Liverpool will face either Boca Juniors, Inter or Yokohama in the last eight tomorrow.
