Former Torquay United winger Jordan Chapell has been unveiled as the latest Chester FC signing.

The 23-year-old becomes the club's sixth new face this summer and third this week following the additions of defender Ian Sharps and midfielder Luke George .

Chapell, who can operate on both flanks and behind the strikers, had been with the Gulls since July 2013 after leaving Sheffield United.

His contract at Plainmoor had expired and he wanted a move to a club nearer to his home in Yorkshire. He has signed a one-year deal.

Chapell, who played in the same academy team as Kingsley James, spent the last two months of the 2014-15 season on loan at Grimsby Town alongside Ross Hannah.

Chapell netted once in 23 games for Torquay last term and made a further six appearance for the Mariners.

He progressed through the ranks at Brammall Lane and featured six times for the first-team as well as spending time on loan with Burton Albion and Torquay.

Chapell was allowed to leave the Blades to make a permanent move to Devon and ended the 2013-14 campaign as the club's top scorer with five goals as the Gulls were relegated from the Football League.

He asked to be placed on the transfer list last summer but remained at Plainmoor when no move materialised for what was to prove a difficult season for the club.

The arrival of Chapell, who is a direct runner with a turn of pace, allows manager Steve Burr to use his preferred 4-4-2 formation with Craig Mahon on the other wing should he choose.
