WHAT happened to England Under-21s in Serbia on Tuesday night was an absolute disgrace and it’s time UEFA and FIFA finally took some strong action against racism.

For too long they have allowed certain countries to get away with sickening abuse. All they do is dish out ridiculously lenient fines, rather than actually dealing with the issue.

I’d like to see the Football Association come out and make it clear they aren’t prepared to send an England team to Serbia until proper measures are taken.

UEFA and FIFA need to throw Serbia out of qualifying for both the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Euros.

That might sound harsh but you need to draw a line in the sand.

Sadly, I bet Serbia end up with a fine, which will be smaller than the £80,000 Nicklas Bendtner got for showing his underpants at the Euros. And they may possibly have to play a couple of games behind closed doors as well.

UEFA have opened an investigation into what went on but there’s no grey area here.

Those young English players had to deal with horrendous racist chanting from start to finish in Serbia. There’s no debate to be had.

It’s time the governing bodies faced up to their responsibilities and made it clear that there’s no place for behaviour like that.
