RAFA BENITEZ was clearly fed up with getting blamed for everything that’s wrong at Chelsea and that frustration boiled over after their FA Cup win at Middlesbrough.
Benitez decided enough was enough and he certainly didn’t hold back in that press conference. It will be difficult for him to continue as manager until the end of the season.
Chelsea play West Brom at home tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what the atmosphere is like.
The fans who have abused Benitez since the day he took the job don’t seem to be interested in letting it go.
A lot of them set out to hound him out of Stamford Bridge and it looks like they are going to succeed.
It wasn’t the first time a club’s fans have protested at the appointment of a manager but usually after a short period they think ‘okay, I’ve made my point but I’m a supporter of the football club and I’ll support the team’.
I find it amazing that Chelsea fans haven’t been able to do that.
Okay, their team produced a lacklustre performance against Man City last weekend but once again it was the manager who got the blame rather than the players.
Chelsea are in real danger of not making the top four and they’re just fortunate that Arsenal aren’t in better shape to take advantage of their problems.
The fans are affecting everyone and the players are hiding behind it.
I actually thought Benitez was just what they needed to get them organised but the players just haven’t bought into it and being interim boss he doesn’t have any power. The players are thinking ‘what can he do to me? He won’t be here next season but I will be.’
