LIVERPOOL have moved on – now it’s time for Luis Suarez to show he has as well. The striker let the club down with the way he conducted himself at Old Trafford last Saturday.

Suarez made a big mistake not shaking Patrice Evra’s hand and he has paid the price for that.

The problem was that we didn’t see it coming. We had all been led to believe there would be a handshake.

If Suarez had said before last Saturday ‘look, there’s no way I can shake his hand’ there would have been a number of options for the club to explore.

But to say he would shake Evra’s hand and then not do so was out of order. It wasn’t about admitting guilt. He wasn’t asked to go down on one knee. It was just a handshake between two people who don’t like each other.

Credit to Liverpool because I was pleased with the way they responded with the apologies.

They soon realised how big this was and that decisive action was needed. Thankfully things have now died down.

Nobody came out of it well and that includes Evra and Alex Ferguson. We all know Ferguson has got a chip on his shoulder about Liverpool. He saw the opportunity to twist the knife in and took it.

He knew the impact his words about Suarez would have.

Of course Liverpool won’t sell the striker. Suarez needs to put all this behind him now.

When all the trouble started back in October I never thought all that stuff would affect him, but I certainly think it has. He wasn’t focused on the game last Saturday.

I want to see him get back to doing what he loves, playing football with a smile on his face. We all know he feels like he’s been the victim of injustice.

But life isn’t meant to be fair. You come up against all kinds of problems. It will do him no good to dwell on the past.

He owes it to Kenny and the club to deliver on the pitch after all the support they’ve given him.

When you look at this season, we’re in the Carling Cup final, the fifth round of the FA Cup and we’re competing for Champions League qualification – it’s all there.

Suarez needs to focus on the future from now on.
