HALTON Arms were spot-on in a well-contested Warrington and District Sunday League Premier Cup final.

The tie pitched together two of the top teams, who have met on several such occasions down the years.

Halton Arms made hard work of the final, going behind after a blunder from keeper David Dwyer who dropped a cross.

This only spurred the Runcorn side but despite creating more chances overall, they had to wait until the 85th minute for an equaliser.

Kevin Patterson's effort took the game to extra-time.

Hawthorne missed an excellent opportunity in the first period but Halton held on for a penalty shoot-out.

The tension got to Hawthorne's player-manager Farrelly who missed his side's third penalty, giving Halton an edge.

Patterson calmly scored with the final Halton Arms penalty to secure the club's first silverware of a promising season, which sees them unbeaten in the league.

Also on target from the spot were Lee Mitchell, Gary Lunt, Mike Maloney and man-of-the-match Wayne Linnett.

Halton Arms' only competitive defeat this season has come in the Cheshire Cup.

They have another Warrington Cup final in May.

Building Boards 3 Manor Athletic 2: Boards manager Jason Maddocks got away with resting some of his top players for the run-in but only just as his side had to recover a 2-0 interval deficit.

Youngster Jamie O'Brian confirmed his return from a two-month injury lay-off with a spectacular 35-yard winner in this West Cheshire League Division Two game.

Victory for Building Boards, who are now unbeaten in 10 matches, relegated Manor to Division Three for next season.

But it was the visitors who took the lead through their MoM Colin Quirk, who beat three defenders and then keeper Ian Rockliffe.

Karl Thomas hit the woodwork and was twice denied by Manor's keeper but the visitors added a second.

The introduction of big guns Gary Vaughan and Craig Beech had an immediate effect.

From Vaughan's pinpoint cross, Neil Darracott slotted home at the far post.

Beech then levelled with a superb solo effort to set up a thrilling finale to this match, sponsored by Building Board Specialists of Manor Park, Runcorn.
