Stevenage Borough 6 Vauxhall Motors 0

JAMES Coates’ heroics prevented the Motormen from a double-figure thrashing as they crashed out of the FA Trophy second round on Tuesday.

They had Borough in hand for 15 minutes until defender Tom Hannigan went off with a head wound after a challenge from Chris Beardsley.

After that the hosts took a 2-0 lead.

Thanks to keeper Coates, that was the score until the 80th minute, but then a third goal saw Motors crumble and concede a further three.

On Saturday, Motors gave their all at Blyth Spartans but came away with a 3-2 loss in the Blue Square North.

The visitors went behind but Lee Furlong equalised on 20 minutes. Motors’ Lee Dames was then harshly sent off and Blyth took the lead.

In the 89th minute Karl Noon lobbed the keeper to make it 2-2 but a disputed penalty four minutes into added time gave Blyth victory.

Motors host Alfreton Town on Saturday (3pm) and Workington on Tuesday (7.45pm).
