Vauxhall Motors 1 Harrogate Town 3

CARL Macauley vowed to strengthen his squad after watching Motors slip to a fifth defeat on the spin.

On-loan midfielder Tom Platt scored twice for Harrogate on Saturday to dump Motors out of the FA Trophy at the first round stage.

Vauxhall boss Macauley said: “I am looking to strengthen the squad but these things take time.

“Finding a prolific striker is the priority. I haven’t got an open cheque book so the signings I make have to be the right signings.”

Tom Rutter scored Motors’ only goal on Saturday, making it 1-1 in the 48th minute. Platt scored his second of the game on 53 minutes and Paul Beesley added a third.

Motors have an immediate chance for revenge when they travel to Harrogate Town for a league game on Saturday (3pm).

Motors skipper Tom Hannigan lost out to Stockport County’s Joe Connor in the voting for Football Conference player of the year at Monday’s North West Football Awards.
