A FOOTBALL official from Chester has been honoured for his 50 years’ of outstanding service to the game.

Terry Carroll was presented with the FA’s Long Service Award at the Cheshire County FA’s AGM.

He said: “It’s great for my contributions to be recognised. I’m made up for my family more than anything, because football has taken up a large part of my life. It hasn’t been easy with me being away at weekends but they have given me fantastic support.”

Mr Carroll became involved in football in the 1950s when he started playing for Christchurch FC in the Chester Cayza League, before going on to play for Chester Leadworks and Tattenhall in the Chester and District League.

He joined the management committee of the Chester and District League, holding the office of chairman, and is now a life member.

After finishing playing, he took to the dugout, managing the Chester District FA youth team and working as assistant manager for the Great Britain Catholic Schools Under 18 team.

Mr Carroll is a life member of the Cheshire FA and is still an active member of the CCFA council, with no plans to retire.
