Blacon Youth are throwing their hat into the Chester & Wirral League title mix.

They won 6-0 at home to Kelsall to move up to fourth place in the Queensferry Sports Premier Division.

Hat-trick hero Lee McElmeel, Danny Davies (2) and Matty Jones got the goals for the in-form Cairns Crescent outfit, who have now won their last nine matches.

Table-topping Birkenhead Town (Mike Parnell 2) remain 12 points clear of Blacon, but having played three games more, after winning 2-1 at Chester Nomads 3rds (Howell Williams).

Second-placed Newton Athletic (Mike McIntyre) slipped seven points behind Birkenhead after having to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to third-placed Shaftesbury Youth (John McGraa).

Ellesmere Port (Graham Davidson 2, John Britton, Ian Johnson, Mike Newman) won their derby 5-0 at Ellesmere Port Town Reserves.

Cestrian Alex hauled themselves up to second in Olympic Trophies Division One with an 8-0 victory at home to Whitby Athletic.

Sutton Athletic resumed pole position in Link Up Division Two with a 22-0 home success over bottom-side Upton Rangers.

Dan Higginson did most of the damage for Sutton, who were missing professional boxer Paul Butler, who was fighting in Scotland, with Mike Urmston, Pete Barnett, Ian Mayo, Danny McKevvitt, Sam Roddy, Carl Clark and Tom Bowan also getting in on the act.

Chester Argyle (Zach Caverney and Tim Ashbrook) beat Elton Rigger (Karl Rixham) 2-1 at the Roodee but there were defeats for Crossway (Tom Head, Phil Goss), 6-2 at St Saviours (Tom Bloodworth 2, Regan Barlow 2, Garry Wynne, Gee McLeod), and Hoole Youth, 3-2 at improving AFC Quays United (Addie Bottley, Mark Yates, Tom Reece).

A Joe Henry hat-trick was not enough for Blacon Youth Reserves as they crashed out of the Devaprint Cayzer Shield, 4-3 at Upton JFC.

With Blacon winning 3-1, Upton’s Joe Williams produced a man-of-the match performance, scoring one goal and setting up a further two for Tom Berry (2) and Danny Evans.

Overpool Athletic (Dave Burton 2, Andy Merner 2, Steve Rothwell) won 5-0 at Ellesmere Port Reserves in the Roodee Web Designs Tom Gerraghty Memorial Trophy while New Ferry Rangers (Scott Froggatt, Luke Cassidy, Sam Price, Lee Doyle) held on to win 4-3 at home to Eastham Athletic (Danny James 2, Jonny Williams) in the Dee 106.3 League Cup.

Elton Athletic and Orange Athletic were representing the league in the Runcorn & District Senior Cup quarter-finals.

Elton went down 4-3 at home to Runcorn Albion but Orange booked their place in the last four with a 4-1 triumph at Railway Rangers given to them by John Heaton (2), Alex Madders and an own goal.

In Tarvin Precision Vets Division A, Nags Head Bunbury beat Tattenhall 4-0, while in Division C, Avenue Vets (Tony Sample 3, Chris Taylor 2, Mark Brady 2, Dermot Bolger) ran out 8-0 winners at Great Sutton.

In the Friday Nights 11s, Blacon Vets (Jamie Rogers 2, John Dowridge) stretched their lead at the top by beating Travs 3-0, and Paul Ricci (2) and Stefan Gajewski were on target for CBP FC in their 3-1 victory over Ashton Phoenix, for whom Josh Forster replied.

Chester & District Sunday League

AFC Tattenhall have picked up their first points of the Chester & District Sunday League Section B season.

The Flacca outfit got off the mark by winning 5-3 at home to Dee Rangers thanks to an Aaron Gray hat-trick and Joe Sumner brace.

Andy Rowntree and Jonny Alpas had brought Rangers level but by the time Louis Tossland struck late on the game was already gone.

Tarvin Rex took over at the top with a 4-0 win at home to Holdi given to them by Dan Evans, Ben Thorpe (2) and Alex Carlton.

Handbridge Lions are nine points behind Tarvin in fifth, but with four games in hand, after their hard-fought victory at home to West Park Rangers.

It was level pegging at the break with Marc Moorfield and Steve Dodd netting for the Lions and Matty Tarbuck and James Simpson for Rangers.

Handbridge pulled clear after the restart with second goals of the match for Moorfield, from the penalty spot, and Dodd, before Kevin McGovern reduced the deficit.

But, while Moorfield missed the chance to complete his hat-trick from his second spot-kick of the contest, Graham Dodd’s strike ensured the Lions ran out 5-3 winners.

Vauxhall Sports Club won 5-0 at home to Waverton.

Wayne Manning scored twice to take his total for the term up to 20 goals in all competitions with George Brooks, Joe Tunstall and Tony Atherton also on target.

St Theresa’s marched into the Cheshire Sports League Cup third round after a 4-2 Blacon derby success at home to Waggon & Horses.

Waggon’s first defeat in any competition this season was sealed by goals in the final 10 minutes by Jaz Ashbrook and Matty Pierce.

Earlier in the clash, Saints led through Ellis Moore and Tom George, only to be twice pegged back by James Henry.

Westminster took over at the top of Concorde Trophies Section A with a 4-2 win at home to a depleted FC Blacon side.

Carl Hodges, Luke Edwards (2) and Carl Frost were on target for Westminster with Sam Pickering and Tom Sheridan reducing the arrears for nine-man Blacon.

Sutton Casuals moved up to third with a 4-0 home win over Upton Youth Centre, Jack Hannagan (2), Nile Mulrey and Peter Barnett with the goals.

West Cheshire League

Chester Nomads and Upton AA were unable to stop the top two in West Cheshire League Division One from powering on.

Nomads went down 3-1 at home to leaders Rainhill Town after an Ed Moss penalty had brought them level on the hour mark.

Goals from Alan Dorrian and Chris Melia could not prevent Upton from losing 3-2 at home to Newton, who moved up to second.

Lee Turkington (2) and Gaz Gerrard fired Helsby to a superb 3-2 comeback victory at Cammell Laird 1907 Reserves.

A Mike Murray goal proved nothing more than a consolation as Upton AA Reserves were beaten 2-1 at Division Three high flyers Ellesmere Port Town.

Chester Nomads Reserves lost 2-1 at Ashville Reserves, Mitch Mowatt with the reply, while Helsby Reserves fell 3-0 at City of Liverpool Reserves.

Cheshire League

Deva Christleton have taken over at the top of Cheshire League Division Two.

The Little Heath outfit won 3-1 at home to Sandbach United Reserves with goals from Ilya Haycock, substitute William Reid and a stunning strike from Rowan Brooks.

Malpas continued their good form by winning 1-0 at home to Denton Town in the Premier Division.

Harry Cunningham got the only goal of the game.

Tarporley Victoria ’s struggles in Division One continued as they were beaten 3-0 at home by second-placed by Billinge.

But Vics were not helped by sending offs to Joe Marley and Steve Wright.

Welsh Premier League

Airbus UK Broughton ’s miserable form continued as they were dumped out of the Welsh Cup, suffering a 4-1 defeat at lower-league Penybont.

The Wingmakers made the worst possible start to the third-round tie before halving the deficit in the 21st minute through Ryan Fraughan.

But, after Liam O’Neill and Fraughan went close to equalising, hopes of a comeback were scuppered in the second half.

Airbus, who have lost their last six matches and have failed to win any of their previous nine, return to league action at home to Bala Town on Saturday (2.30pm).
