GIRLS will be coached in the basic skills of football by Chester City’s qualified community development coaches in a joint venture with Chester Community Sports Network.

The two-year project in primary schools throughout the city will utilise Blues coaches alongside qualified coaches from local teams like Waverton and Newton Athletic.

They will run sessions for girls as they work towards the implementation of a football development centre for girls overseen by Chester City Council’s football development officer Jen Robinson and Blues community development officer Danny Jones.

Jen said: “It is vital we make football more accessible to women and girls and increase opportunities in the game.

The project has received £9,000 in funding from Sport England, Cheshire County Sports Club, Chester Schools Sports Council and Chester City Council.

Danny said: “It has been one of my targets for the last couple of years and as the programme has gathered momentum over the last six months we have been able to apply the coaching staff and expertise of Chester City to the project.

“In years to come we want to see this programme become sustainable and begin to feed a Chester City Ladies section to run alongside our own Centre of Excellence.”
