A GAME of two halves was a fitting description of Hucknall Town’s 3-2 Blue Square North win against Vauxhall Motors at the Motassist Arena.

Motors were 3-0 down within half an hour but on 37 minutes, a handball presented the Motormen with a penalty. Captain Mattie Burke’s effort was saved but it did spark Motors into life.

After the interval the arrival of supersub Anthony Wright further lifted the Motormen.

On 72 minutes Lee Dames whipped the ball in from the left and Wright headed home from four yards out to make it 3-1.

And three minutes later it was 3-2 after Wright was hauled down from behind in the area.

He stepped up and coolly slotted the penalty into the right-hand corner.

With seconds remaining on the clock, Carl Macauley’s men increased the pressure but when a free kick hit the post the home side were left to rue their earlier penalty miss.

Vauxhall: Coates, Owens, Dames, Field, Marsh-Evans, Holmes, Holden, Burke, Noon, McCubbin (Wright) Noone.

Subs: Egerton, Hannigan.

Attendance: 174.

The Motormen have signed young striker Martin McCubbin from Blackburn Rovers on a month’s loan.

The 18-year-old reserve team player has yet to feature for Rovers’ second string in this, his first full senior season.

Vauxhall’s next game is on Saturday at home to Southport in the FA Trophy (3pm kick-off).

The two sides have already met three times this season, with Southport winning them all.
