WITTON Albion's raffle ticket sponsorship drive has produced six new backers and an ironic twist.

Albion sold 220 tickets at £50 each to companies and individuals and on Wednesday when the names were drawn Britannia Carpets, for several years the main club sponsor at Northwich Vics, discovered they had won a major prize.

For this season the Wincham Park ground will be known as the Britannia Carpets Stadium.

Britannia owner Dave Price said: 'I'm thrilled to bits.

'I'm delighted to be involved with Witton and will probably look to increase our involvement commercially with them.

'We have always helped both clubs and we're still involved at Northwich.'

The name on the front of the first team shirts will be Sports Equipment, a Lymm-based company run by Danny Keown, who was assistant manager at Witton three years ago.

Slick Moves will appear on the back of the first team shorts; Blue Arrow, of Winsford, will be the reserves' kit sponsor, with Afford Rent-a-Car on the shorts. The family stand will now bear the name Heads Recruitment.

Albion say the scheme raised more money than the usual sponsorship deals struck after negotiation.
