Calum McIntyre predicts a 'special night' when Chester FC Youth visit League One side Oldham Athletic in the FA Youth Cup first round proper.

Chester's youngsters secured themselves a first trip to Football League opponents following a resounding 6-0 win at Silsden AFC on Tuesday night in the third qualifying round.

That result means the young Blues have scored an impressive 22 goals in their three FA Youth Cup ties to date having kicked off with a 9-1 first round qualifying win over Chadderton and followed that up with a 7-0 defeat of Cheadle Town.

An Oli Nugent double and one apiece for Niall Dawson, Tom Crawford, Nathan Brown and Ilan Ap-Gareth sealed a convincing victory over the Cobbydalers at Keighley Road.

McIntyre said afterwards: "We're delighted to have reached the first round and these boys truly deserve it.

"We were excellent, we played with real quality and an intensity that showed how much it meant to us.

"The Oldham game is huge, it'll be nice for people to consider us underdogs for a change but we will give as good as we get and will have a right good go.

"It'll be great for us to go to Boundary Park, I hope plenty of Chester supporters turn out and get behind us. It's going to be a special night."

Chester opened the scoring in the 10th minute when fine work from Brown out wide ended with Nugent smashing them in front and they almost doubled their advantage soon after through Jacob Evans.

Their pressure told on the half-hour mark when Dawson picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and found the top corner with a sweet strike.

And just four minutes later, Evans’ chip came back off the bar and Crawford slotted home.

The onslaught continued four minutes into the second period when Brown made it 4-0 with a deft chip from eight yards out.

It wasn’t long before Crawford teed up Nugent for his second of the night via a cool finish and then Ap-Gareth wrapped it up with 11 minutes remaining following a fine team move involving Evans and Matt Waters.

The Blues have twice made it to the first round proper, bowing out 3-0 to York City in 2012 and losing to Chesterfield on penalties in 2013 after the tie finished 1-1 at the end of extra time.
