VAUXHALL Motors’ reward for a five-star FA Cup show is a trip to lower-league North Ferriby United.

Carl Macauley’s men set up the third qualifying round showdown after they produced some thrilling and fast-flowing football to thrash Blue Square North rivals Blyth Spartans 5-1 on Saturday.

The sides could not be separated when they met in the league seven days earlier – but once defender Tom Hannigan gave Motors an early lead there was only going to be one winner of the second qualifying round tie.

Much to the delight of manager Macauley, the victory marked Vauxhall’s first home win of the campaign and proved that his side can close out a game after they have gone in front.

Far too often this season the Rivacre Park outfit have let leads slip – but there were no signs of those unwanted lapses of concentration against Blyth as Neil Prince and man-of-the-match Paul Brown went on to bag braces and seal a comfortable and thoroughly-deserved success.

Motors, who banked £4,500 as a result of the victory, will now travel to face Evo-Stik League Premier Division high flyers North Ferriby on Saturday week.

The winners will receive £7,500 in prize money and move within one win of a place in the first round proper.

But first up for Vauxhall is a league clash at home to second-placed Boston United on Saturday (3pm).

Richie Moss’s red-hot form continued on Saturday as the striker fired Tarporley Victoria to a 2-1 home triumph over Gamesley – and into the top five of Cheshire League Division One.

But it was another afternoon to forget for Malpas as the Division Two basement boys went down to a 3-1 home loss to high-flying Runcorn Town Reserves.
