FORMER Blues boss Mark Wright claimed City supporters had 'short memories' after receiving a distinctly lukewarm reception on his return to the Saunders Honda Stadium.

Back at Chester for the first time since his acrimonious departure in August last year, Wright kept a low profile and rarely emerged from the visitors' dugout during his Peterborough United side's 3-1 defeat.

There were one or two boos from home fans as Wright and his assistant Steve Bleasdale made their way out of the players' tunnel before kick-off, and Bleasdale later became involved in some verbal exchanges with City supporters towards the end of the match.

Wright - who guided the Blues to the Nationwide Conference championship last year - failed to emerge for a post-match Press conference, but he stopped to talk to reporters as he boarded the team bus almost hour after the final whistle.

The Posh manager said: 'All you can do is go on the supporters. If they had appreciated what both Steve and myself did for this football club, you don't get the reception we did. Would we get stick? No.

'People have got to understand and they've got short memories. What people should have in their minds is what did we achieve for Chester City?

'If the crowd don't want to show their appreciation towards Steve and myself, then that's football - we just get on with it.

'I don't think it's anything that's going to overly bother us or overly hurt us. If you've left in circumstances they think are untoward or a little bit wrong, then you're going to get stick.

'All I know is if I went back to (former clubs) Derby or Liverpool or Southampton, I wouldn't get stick. But when you come back here, is it a little bit immature or a little bit stupid? Yeah I think it is but that's life.'

Wright claimed his even-of-season exit from Chester was for 'totally footballing reasons' despite Blues chairman Stephen Vaughan's insistence it was for 'a non-football-related matter'.

There was not a single mention in Saturday's matchday programme of Wright, Bleasdale or returning ex-City captain Paul Carden.
