ROBERTO MARTINEZ insists he is relaxed about the situation surrounding Marouane Fellaini’s future at Everton – as Napoli join the race for the Belgian.

Fellaini has been the subject of frenzied speculation in recent weeks, with a host of Europe’s top clubs linked with moves for the 25-year-old.

A buy-out clause, written into his contract in 2011, would enable the midfielder to negotiate with any club that bids £24m for him, but as yet no such offer has been received by Everton.

Nonetheless, Arsenal remain keen, as do Manchester United. And Napoli, now managed by former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, are the latest club to express an interest. The Serie A side are expected to have money to spend this summer, with star striker Edinson Cavani expected to leave the club, and Benitez has long been an admirer of Fellaini.

Martinez is aware of the situation, and is drawing up a contingency plan in case Fellaini leaves. He does not, however, expect the Belgian to try and force a move away from Goodison this summer.

“I don’t think it’s an issue at all with Marouane,” Martinez said.

“You are not talking about a player who is out of the squad or in negotiations with another club. I won’t look to speak to him about this because there is nothing to speak about.

“Transfer speculation is unstoppable when you have been as successful as Everton. You will always get other teams who admire and want to take your best players. That’s normal and happens everywhere. It happens at Real Madrid, at Manchester United and Everton. So there’s nothing we have to speak about.

“What I want is him to be ready for the next season, be ready to take an important role at the football club, and understand that it is a big season for him – for the club – and to get into the Belgium team to try to win the World Cup. I really don’t believe Marouane is thinking, ‘am I going to be here?’ I don’t think that is in his head.”

Martinez is now preparing to delve into the transfer market himself in the coming weeks, as he looks to add to a squad which finished sixth in the Premier League under David Moyes last season. He will speak with his scouting team about the merits of FC Twente midfielder Leroy Fer, who came close to joining the Blues in January, and has already identified out-of-contract Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz and Spartak Moscow winger Aiden McGeady as potential targets. James McCarthy and Callum McManaman could also come into consideration.
