STEVEN GERRARD has hailed Europe’s dramatic Ryder Cup victory as reminiscent of Liverpool’s stunning fightback to win the Champions League in Istanbul in 2005.

The Reds skipper watched in admiration as the Miracle of Medinah unfolded on Sunday.

“I was glued to it,” said Gerrard. “It was inspirational and those guys are magicians. You don’t realise how hard golf is until you get out there and try it yourself.

“They are playing a different game to myself. It’s incredible what they can do with a golf ball. Under that pressure, it reminded me of Istanbul at half-time. Your backs are against the wall, you’ve got very little chance of winning but everyone pulls in the right direction and you end up creating a miracle. That was what happened with the Ryder Cup and it was great to see.

“I’ve met (vice-captain) Darren Clarke as he’s a big Red and it was great to see him involved in what was a famous victory.”
