ALAN STUBBS says Everton are open to the idea of some of the club’s young players linking up with David Weir at Sheffield United.

A number of the Blues’ rising stars spent periods on loan at Football League sides last season to provide them with first-team experience.

Under-21s’ manager Stubbs says such moves will be on the agenda again next season and sending them to Bramall Lane will be considered. Weir, a coach with Everton’s second string, was named as United’s new manager earlier this month after failing to land the top job at Goodison Park.

And though he was initially keen to work with the players already at the South Yorkshire club, Everton have said they would listen to offers of loan deals should Weir call.

“I think it’s something that we will think about because it’s a big club,” Stubbs said.

“Davey knows the young lads who could benefit the club and benefit him and, if that’s the case, and we see if it’s right for the player, then why not?

“It will be a great experience for them but first and foremost we will look and see if it’s the right move for the player, because that’s what we always do.

“We never send lads out on loan and just leave them.

“We see if it’s the right type of club, whether they play the right type of football, whether it will suit them and whether they will look after the player.

“There are quite a few things we look into before we let the young lads out on loan.”
