FORMER Everton favourite David Unsworth is staying at Sheffield United to work with new boss David Weir, despite interest north of the border from Kilmarnock.

Unsworth spoke to Rugby Park officials last week after the departure of boss Kenny Shiels and Killie chairman Michael Johnston was so impressed he was reported to be ready to give Unsworth his first managerial job.

“David impressed Killie with his ideas and thoughts on football in general,” said a source. “In fact, it seems he would almost certainly have been asked to take over had he not opted not to stay where he is.”

Unsworth, appointed by The Blades in December as part of their response to the Elite Player Performance Plan, decided to stay put in Yorkshire.

Now he seems set to work with Weir at Bramall Lane.
